Information to CHISA 2006 Congress Participants arriving in Prague

CHISA 2006 Congress venue:
The CHISA 2006 Congress is taking place in the building of the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering (in Czech: CVUT - Fakulta stavebni, address: Thakurova 7, 166 29 Praha 6 - Dejvice). The building can be reached from Metro line A - Metro station Dejvicka (underground railway) by walking through Solinova and Technick� streets in 10 min (see Congress map).
Notice: The end exit of station Dejvicka is inaccessible due to reconstruction, therefore please use front exit (in direction of arrival of train).

The Congress Opening Ceremony will take place in the Ceremonial Halls of Rudolfinum, Metro station: Staromestska, line A, at 20:00 Admission is only on invitation cards which will be gained upon registration for the Congress. Those arriving late on Sunday evening and unable to register are asked to present their business cards.

Registration on arrival and Congress Office at the Congress Centre:
Opening hours: Saturday 26 August 14-19 hrs. Sunday 27 August 10-19 hrs. Monday through Thursday 8-17 hrs. All additional payments of Congress fees, ordered Services and accommodation requests ordered through the CHISA 2006 Accommodation Service, should be negotiated and paid only in the Congress Office. In Hotels/Hostels pay only extra services (extra meals, telephones, parking etc.).
Currency: The currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Crown (CZK). Exchange rate depends on exchange office and current exchange rate. On 21 July the following rates could be gained: for 1 EUR approx.28 CZK, for 1 USD approx. 22 CZK. In shops foreign currency is generally not accepted, however, there are numerous exchange booths all over Prague.
Arrival: Upon arrival accommodate first. At the Hotels/Hostels lists of persons accommodated by the CHISA 2006 Accommodation Service will be available at the Reception. Announce your name and you will be accommodated (do not make any accommodation payments at the Hotel/Hostel). If on Sunday 27 August you have enough time go to the Congress Office and register, if you are late please, go directly to the Congress Opening Ceremony. You can register during Monday.
Service at the airport: Please note that at the airport there are 2 arrival halls (Non-Schengen - Terminal 1; Schengen - Terminal 2). There will be a Congress stand of CHISA 2006 (on 26. and 27.8.) at both terminals where you can meet our representative who will help you with gaining information on your transport to your Hotel/Hostel or the Congress Centre. They can also help you with hiring a taxi.

Transport from airport:
Public bus No. 119 to Metro station Dejvicka (22 min, 12 km, operates from 4 - 24 hrs. daily). Time interval is 10 - 20 min. To the bus station go from exit of airport hall (Terminals 1 and 2) over road. Price for bus ticket 20 CZK. Bus tickets can be bought in newspaper stand at Airport Arrival Hall or in stand CHISA. Tickets should be available also in the bus (with additional charge). Unfortunately neither public bus nor microbus stops at Hotel Krystal, which is on way to Dejvicka, 7 km from airport. Cheapest way to Hotel Krystal is to go to Dejvicka by bus No. 119 and back by tram No.20 and 26 to Tram station Nad Dzbanem.
Airport microbus CEDAZ service (white microbuses). During day time microbuses depart every half hour to Dejvicka - price 60 CZK, operate 6 - 21 hrs. Microbuses can also be hired anytime, 1 - 4 persons to one hotel or Congress site 480 CZK, 4 - 8 persons 960 CZK.
Airport taxi service: AAA (English speaking operators). The basic price is 25 CZK. AAA taxis can be summoned at tel. nos.: 14014 or 233113311 or mobile nos.: 602331133 or 603331133 or 777331133. Taxi AAA from airport to Hotel Diplomat, Congress site, Masarykova Hostel, Hotel Pyramida and Hostel Strahov about CZK 400, to Hotel Krystal about CZK 250. When in town we also recommend using AAA taxis. They will usually come in 10 min at no extra charge. AAA is a reliable taxi service. Service at hotel/hostel reception will summon taxi.

Public transport system:
3 Underground - Metro lines A, B and C, trams and busses. To City centre from Metro station Dejvicka to Metro station Muzeum (Vaclavske namesti) takes about 6 min.
Price of tickets to public transport system CZK 20. Tickets can be purchased at airport or at all Metro stations at ticket vendors.

Car parking:
Recommended guarded Underground car parking in Studentska street, Praha 6 - close to the Congress venue, ( tel: (+420) 224324636) 25 CZK/hour or 920 CZK for first 3 days, from the 4th day 130 CZK/day.
Hotel Diplomat: guarded underground car park.
Hotel Zlata Praha: free car park in courtyard.
Hotel Krystal: underground car park.
The Masarykova Hostel: unguarded parking in front of Hostels is not recommended. However, please note, that the Guarded underground car parking in Studentska street is very close to Masarykova Hostel.

Transport from Hotels/Hostels to Metro station Dejvicka (and then 10 min walk to Congress site).
Krystal Hotel: 15 min by tram No. 20 and 26.
Hotel Pyramida: (station Malovanka) 10 min. by bus No.149 or 217.
Hostel Strahov (station Koleje Strahov): 15 min by bus No. 149 or 217.

Transfer directly to Congress site:
Diplomat Hotel: 5-10 min walk.
Masaryk Hostel: 3 min walk.
Hotel Zlata Praha: 3 min by bus No. 131 (3 bus stops) to station "Santinka" and 7 min walk to Congress site.

To Congress Centre from railway stations:
Main Railway Station and Railway station Praha Holesovice: Both railway stations are on Metro line C. Take train in direction Haje, change at station Muzeum to line A and go to end station Dejvicka.

Check-in in hotels:
Since in most hotels rooms will be freed only during morning, check-in might be possible only after 14 h.

Health insurance:
When travelling to the Czech Republic Participant should have an international health insurance.

Beware of thieves and pickpockets! When travelling in Prague just as in other big Capitals take great care of your belongings. Don't leave baggage unattended, in crowded transport systems beware of pickpockets.

Weather:
At the end of August mild summer temperatures can be expected (20 to 30 degrees C), however, occasional rainy showers and cooler weather are possible.
